The Secretary and David Rudd, seen below wearing their Watson Cup tops, recently had the pleasure of playing with 2 well known Professionals at the West Links. Gary Wolstenholme of the European Seniors Tour and Beth Allen of the Ladies European Tour joined us for a match and a very tight game ensued. David and Beth combined well to win against Gary and me at the last hole. Yours truly had 6 handicap strokes, needing them all – as David had 6 birdies! At the 11th, a par 5, three balls were on the green in 2 strokes, but I holed from 60 feet for a net Albatross then I generously conceded all the three other putts for just run-of-the-mill Eagles! The next 2 photos were taken at Crail Golfing Society where Gareth Jack has just joined. Yes – he’s leaving us, to live in Elie and will soon start work for the Links Trust at St Andrews. He will be greatly missed. David Canavan, with help from Maree Rudd, is taking over at Longniddry. A few days earlier at Crail, we enjoyed meeting a young Assistant, David Snodgrass, who is developing an excellent Junior Section there. And Past Captain Pam Smith joined us for refreshments. Gareth and I, accompanied by Sue my wife, played the Balcomie Links. Gareth was on fire on the back 9 scoring a 30 including this shot on the following photo, of his near miss at a par 3 16th – very close to his first ever hole-in-one. The featured image is of the magnificent “Battle Trophy” being played for at Crail soon, in which several of our top young men will be playing. The Craighead Links at Crail will be the venue of the Scottish Junior Team Championship in 2020.
