Many thanks to The Glen for hosting this event on Friday the 4th August. The appalling weather brought play to a grinding halt for a considerable time, and, due to the number of Players who abandoned their rounds, the competition was cancelled under Decision 33-2d/1. But 9 players played on regardless and they are to be commended! They will all receive prizes to recognise their perseverance! In fact no Team met the requirement to finish with at least 3 scores for Team aggregation. So the Team Stroke-play Championship trophy will not be awarded in 2017 unless * see below! HANDICAPS and CSS – Under Clause 18.7 of CONGU which deals with “Abandoned” competitions, the CSS is equal to the SSS, so any Players completing their rounds who beat the SSS/CSS (70 for Boys, 73 for Girls) have their handicaps cut by the extent dictated against these CSSs. However, there was only 1 Player who did so, Carys Irvine of Craigielaw, who beat the SSS/CSS of 73 with a superb net 72. Special mention must be made of David Rudd and William Ladbrooke who battled on to record Gross 74s, and to Harry Bent who recorded a Net 71. All Players with scores equal to or greater than the CSS, or who had “No Returns,” do not receive any handicap increase and do not need to submit “Away Scores.” Carys, you should put an “Away Score” in for the “ELJGL Team Stroke-play” on the 4th August declaring a net 72 against a CSS of 73. I think we have all learned a lesson today – if a Course is still open for play, and there is no threat of lightning, and if play has not been suspended by the Committee, it might be prudent and excusable to discontinue play, and await an improvement in the weather (as happened today). Thus Players waiting for the change in conditions could then continue and a decision will later be made by the Committee – which today was me – sitting in the lounge of the Clubhouse! * If another Club has capacity and a date in mind, the Competition could be played later this year. Watch this space!
