The Team of Players from the Edinburgh and East Lothian Junior Leagues who have been selected for the Watson Cup in July 2022 enjoyed a courtesy practice round over Muirfield on Tuesday the 21st December. The Match is to be played over Royal Burgess, Muirfield and Gullane No. 1 on the 5th, 6th and 7th of July. The Team of 8 whose handicaps are all plus (better than scratch) includes Sam Hall and Connor Currie but both were unable to attend, so one of the Reserves, Jake Johnston, and a Vice Captain, David Rudd, stepped up and made up the two groups. They played a modified format which challenged the Players who changed partners every 6 holes, and which incorporated varied formats of play – Greensomes, Four-ball, and Foursomes. Several pairs equalled or bettered par for 6 holes and one player, Cameron Adam, managed to be in 3 pairings who each managed that feat! Watson Cup Captain DJ Russell and Chairman Dave Warren walked round, despite the cold, and watched all the play! Vice President Douglas Connon was unable to attend but assisted with the organisation of the event. The Watson Cup organisers are very grateful to the Honourable Company for hosting our group. More practice events may be held at the other venues at Easter and again, shortly before the Match itself.

County Cup 2023/24
THE 2023/24 COUNTY CUP FINAL – has been completed between two strong Teams, West Links Bass and Gullane. It was played at Royal Musselburgh on Saturday the 23rd March 2024.
The Teams and results in the double aggregate foursomes format were: – Match 1 – West Links Bass – Harris Munro and Seb Harvey, lost 2 down to Gullane – Jack Lucas and Angus Hill. Match 2 – West Links Bass – Ben Churn and Hudson Blair won by 4 up v. Gullane – Charlie King and Angus Waddell. Both matches went to the final hole after West Links Bass forced themselves into an aggregate 4 hole lead with only 4 holes to play. Both Gullane pairs won their 17th hole, then Jack and Angus won their 18th hole! Both pairs in the 2nd match missed the 18th green, and after Charlie narrowly missed for par, Ben canned a 20 foot putt for par to win the Cup for West Links Bass! The overall result was 2 holes up to West Links Bass. Both Matches were Handicap Matches. The referees were Stuart and Helen Findlay whom we thank profusely for setting up the event and refereeing on the day. There was a prize giving in the Clubhouse after play, and refreshments were made available for the Players, Spectators and Convenors. Prize vouchers have been issued. In earlier rounds, Owen Malcolm and Scott McEwan-Ness both played for Gullane and they will also receive a voucher.
Many thanks to Royal Musselburgh for hosting this event. They are having their 250th Anniversary in 2024. They are one of the oldest Clubs in the World so we are very honoured to be holding this final as guests of this historic Club.

Jack Rogan steps down!
Jack Rogan, pictured with the League Secretary, Dave Warren, has stepped down from his role as Joint Secretary of the League as he is relocating to the North of Scotland. Jack is a former player for Longniddry in the Junior League, and represented the League in The Watson Cup Match against South Carolina. After graduating from St Andrews, where he played a lot of golf on the fabled Old Course, Jack returned to the East Lothian area to work, and he became the Junior Convenor for Longniddry. Jack then volunteered to assist Dave in the organisation of League events, including the County Cup. We thanked Jack at the Leagues’ recent AGM where he was printed with a pin flag for the 18th hole at the World’s most famous course.
