Many thanks to Gifford GC for hosting our MD7 on Sunday 20th August. And thanks are due to our usual helpers, Shona, John, Jack, and Ric. This was Jack’s last event as Joint Secretary before he moves to Aberdeenshire. Thanks for your commitment to the League Jack! We will find a nice gift to mark your departure. Jack will still be involved in arranging the 2023 County Cup, and our Watson Cup Match in the USA in 2024. The results of MD9 can be seen below. The League table has been updated. Scores have been uploaded to WHS. Well done to Musselburgh Toun for winning the event, with West Links Bass close behind. David Ferguson (33) and Harvey Blair (41) had the best scratch and handicap points totals. Sadly, because of conflicting events, several Clubs did not have the minimum of 4 Players to count, so West Links’ strength in depth was very apparent by the Teams finishing 2nd and 3rd on the day. This means that the Bass Team will be the League Champions for 2023. Well done to Ric and his squad! The results enhances the chances of both the West Links Teams qualifying for the imminent Scottish Junior Team Championships on the 24th September at Elderslie. But both Kilspindie and Craigielaw may have something to say about that at MD10! Please get your entries in on Golf Genius for the final MD10 at The Glen on Sunday 27th August. All outstanding prizes can be collected there. Trophies for Championships should also be available there. The Orders of Merit tables have been updated. You can see this on Golf Genius under “Season Points” where there are now quite a few Players who can win! It’s getting very close there! Dave Warren 07595 301425.

West Links Juniors celebrate!
The West Links Juniors met for a fun session on the practice putting green at North Berwick, organised by Martyn Huish and his Pro Shop staff. Then, together with many of the parents, they all convened in the Tantallon Golf Club for refreshments, food, and a chat hosted by the WLJ Junior Convenor, Ric Foulner. Ric reflected on the reasons for their success in the East Lothian Junior Golf League and in individual events in the 2023 season and talked about the way forward for the club to maintain that level of success. On display were the trophies for winning the League Championship, the ELJGL Team Strokeplay Championship, and the most recent win, the ELJGL County Cup Championship. Winning the “Treble” had only ever been achieved before by Tantallon Juniors and by Kilspindie Juniors.
County Cup 2023/24
The 2023/24 County Cup Final – has been completed between two strong Teams, West Links Bass and Gullane. It was played at Royal Musselburgh on Saturday the 23rd March 2024.
The Teams and results in the double aggregate foursomes format were: – Match 1 – West Links Bass – Harris Munro and Seb Harvey, lost 2 down to Gullane – Jack Lucas and Angus Hill. Match 2 – West Links Bass – Ben Churn and Hudson Blair won by 4 up v. Gullane – Charlie King and Angus Waddell. Both matches went to the final hole after West Links Bass forced themselves into an aggregate 4 hole lead with only 4 holes to play. Both Gullane pairs won their 17th hole, then Jack and Angus won their 18th hole! Both pairs in the 2nd match missed the 18th green, and after Charlie narrowly missed for par, Ben canned a 20 foot putt for par to win the Cup for West Links Bass! The overall result was 2 holes up to West Links Bass. Both Matches were Handicap Matches. The referees were Stuart and Helen Findlay whom we thank profusely for setting up the event and refereeing on the day. There was a prize giving in the Clubhouse after play, and refreshments were made available for the Players, Spectators and Convenors. Prize vouchers have been issued. In earlier rounds, Owen Malcolm and Scott McEwan-Ness both played for Gullane and they will also receive a voucher.
Many thanks to Royal Musselburgh for hosting this event. They are having their 250th Anniversary in 2024. They are one of the oldest Clubs in the World so we are very honoured to be holding this final as guests of this historic Club.

Jack Rogan steps down!
Jack Rogan, pictured with the League Secretary, Dave Warren, has stepped down from his role as Joint Secretary of the League as he is relocating to the North of Scotland. Jack is a former player for Longniddry in the Junior League, and represented the League in The Watson Cup Match against South Carolina. After graduating from St Andrews, where he played a lot of golf on the fabled Old Course, Jack returned to the East Lothian area to work, and he became the Junior Convenor for Longniddry. Jack then volunteered to assist Dave in the organisation of League events, including the County Cup. We thanked Jack at the Leagues’ recent AGM where he was printed with a pin flag for the 18th hole at the World’s most famous course.
