Some present and former League Players have done well in June, led by James Morgan of Longniddry, currently home from college in Memphis, USA. James won the oldest Amateur trophy in the world, the 72 hole Tennant Cup, at Glasgow Gailes and Killermont. Scotsman report and photo here. The winner in 2022 was another former League Player for Dunbar, Jack McDonald. James went on to finish 2nd in the 72 hole East of Scotland Championships at Lundin GC, where Harry Bent and Joint League Secretary Jack Rogan, both made the cut. Scores here. Jack McDonald made it through Regional Qualifying for the Open Championship at Goswick, as did David Rudd of Longniddry at North Hants. Oliver Mukherjee and Cameron Adam, a member of our Watson Cup Team, also qualified. Sadly, James missed out on the playoff for Open Qualifying at Goswick by just one stroke. Scores at each qualifying venue are here. In the 54 hole Barrie Douglas Junior Masters at Strathmore, Brodie Cunningham won with a nine under par total of 207, just 1 stroke ahead of Cameron Mukherjee. Evie McCallum was in 4th place in the Girls event. In the Three Foundations 72 hole event at Blairgowrie, Brodie Cunningham was AGAIN the Boys winner, with a four round total of 285, 3 under par. Cameron Mukherjee, Luca Smith and Aidan Lawson were 4th, 5th and 6th. Evie McCallum and Ellie Bent were 4th and 7th in the Girls event. In the earlier SGF Trophy and Vase events at Schloss Roxburghe, the 72 hole Boys’ event was won by Luca Smith, with a four over par total of 292, followed closely by James Wood and Aidan Lawson. In the Girls’ event Evie McCallum finished in 2nd place and Ava Paterson was 4th. Our own Shona Paton, Captain and Junior Convenor at Gifford, was 3rd in the East Lothian Ladies Summer Meeting round her home course, with a net 72! Brodie lies in 2nd place in Scottish Golf’s Order of Merit, behind Aidan Lawson. Evie lies 2nd in the Girls’ OOM. Well played all of you, ESPECIALLY BRODIE (now off 3.5 handicap) AND EVIE (now off 0.2 handicap!) Here’s the best bit – Stella Walters aged 9 and already with a handicap of 12, won the B Championship at Craigielaw beating some adult men and lady members! INTERNATIONAL TEAMS – several of our regular players have been selected for Scottish Teams to compete in the European Team Championships in July. The Team lists can be seen on Scottish Golf here. Well done to Grace, Evie, Oliver, Fergus, Jake, Aidan and Brodie.

ELJGL Girls vs. St Andrews!
On Saturday the 28th March, a Team of 6 Girls ventured to the Jubilee Course at St Andrews for a match vs. the St Andrews University Ladies Golf Team. The University Team were led by their Captain, Kate Thomson, a recent ELJGL Player from Dunbar. The 3 pairings consisted of Anna Zonova and Lydia Pickett vs. Louisa Forman and Palakshi Siingh, Chloe Adams and Phebe Pickett vs Helen Boyd and Abi Mitchell, and Maisie Witt and Louise Martin vs. Clara Goldstein and Meili Fabre-Marques. The St Andrews University raised 8 Players so together with Gareth Jack, former Longniddry Junior Convenor, I played against Kate and Jemima Bullock. The overall result was 2 matches each. After a round played in very windy conditions, with sand from the beach stinging our faces, we adjourned to the One Under Bar in the Rusacks Hotel for soup and sandwiches. We were grateful for the support of several parents, George Adam, Chris Martin, David Witt and most of the Pickett family! We anticipate having a return match in 2027 in East Lothian. Photos attached in order as per the Teams listed above with a stand-in from another Pickett sister for a St Andrews Player who had to leave! Dave Warren, Jt. League Secretary.

Girls’ Junior Framework!
Scottish Golf have recently announced by email their new funded pathway for “Girls to enter, stay and thrive in Golf.” All Convenors should have received this through their Clubs, but I have sent it to all our Convenors just to be sure they see it. The complete information on how to apply for funding etc is at this link

Ava Paterson in Dubai!
Ava, a recent Junior at Kilspindie, and now a student at Heriot Watt University, was in touch with me recently. Ava told me she was heading to Dubai, where Heriot Watt have a Campus, for a semester from January till the Spring. Ava’s Mum Eleanor, asked me if I knew anyone in Dubai, as Ava had expressed the wish to help to coach Junior Golfers whilst she is there. I recalled that Euan Bowden, and Ryan Gallacher, both former ELJGL Juniors, were working in Dubai. I viewed the “Tommy Fleetwood Academy” website where I saw that both of them are working there as PGA Professionals – see their full Team here! So, I put them in touch with each other. I believe that Ava will be seeing both soon Ryan and Euan soon, but in the meantime, Ava has met the Boss! Good luck Ava!
