MD7 at Dunbar Results!

July 16, 2023 By Dave Warren

A huge thanks to all at Dunbar GC for hosting the 37 Juniors who braved the 40 mph winds at Dunbar today. The course was in great condition. Our thanks are due to Dunbar’s Junior Convenor, Assistant Professional James Gill and the rest of the staff at Dunbar. As usual, Shona Paton and Ric Foulner assisted with the running of the event, and John Anderson was our excellent Starter, and our thanks are also due to all of them. The lower than usual turnout was partly due to many of our regular Juniors being employed at that other event down the road – the Scottish Open! This clash will be avoided in future years. The leading Team on the day was West Links Bass scoring 114 points, only 1 point more than Kilspindie.  The League table has been updated – see this website. The Bass Team move further ahead of their closest rivals, the Fidra and Kilspindie Teams. Well done to the leading Teams and the individual winners who are listed below. There was a 4-way tie in the Net scoring, so after count back, they all win a prize. The home Team’s Kai Laing won the scratch prize with a gross 76, equating to 31 points. Winners can collect their prizes at future MDs. The Orders of Merit have been updated and can be seen on your Golf Genius App under “Season Points. All scores have been posted to WHS so any handicap changes will be made overnight. Please register asap for our annual Championships at Longniddry, as well as for the final 3 Match Days.

Results for MD6 at Kilspindie!

The team scores for MD6 and the updated League Table are on this website in the side columns. The MD6 individual scratch and net stableford scores, and the scratch and handicap OOM positions after 6 Match Days, can be seen on your Golf Genius App under “Tournament Results” and “Season Points.” All scores have been uploaded to WHS and handicap alterations will be made after midnight. If you can play in MDs 6 and 7, you can now enter those on the GG App as they are now open for entry. In very strong winds, well done to the West Links Fidra Team whose 4 best net Stableford scores totalling 141 was 2 strokes better than that of the Gullane Team.  The best scratch score was by Sean Gallacher who scored 37 points with a gross score of 68 including a treble bogey at the 4th! Jamie McLaren of Haddington scored 39 points with a gross score of 74. Prizes down to 4th place in both scratch and handicap sections will be awarded at the next MD.

Successes in June! Updated 1/7.

June 29, 2023 By Dave Warren

Some present and former League Players have done well in June, led by James Morgan of Longniddry, currently home from college in Memphis, USA. James won the oldest Amateur trophy in the world, the 72 hole Tennant Cup, at Glasgow Gailes and Killermont. Scotsman report and photo here. The winner in 2022 was another former League Player for Dunbar, Jack McDonald. James went on to finish 2nd in the 72 hole East of Scotland Championships at Lundin GC, where Harry Bent and Joint League Secretary Jack Rogan, both made the cut. Scores here. Jack McDonald made it through Regional Qualifying for the Open Championship at Goswick, as did David Rudd of Longniddry at North Hants. Oliver Mukherjee and Cameron Adam, a member of our Watson Cup Team, also qualified. Sadly, James missed out on the playoff for Open Qualifying at Goswick by just one stroke. Scores at each qualifying venue are here. In the 54 hole Barrie Douglas Junior Masters at Strathmore, Brodie Cunningham won with a nine under par total of 207, just 1 stroke ahead of Cameron Mukherjee. Evie McCallum was in 4th place in the Girls event. In the Three Foundations 72 hole event at Blairgowrie, Brodie Cunningham was AGAIN the Boys winner, with a four round total of 285, 3 under par. Cameron Mukherjee, Luca Smith and Aidan Lawson were 4th, 5th and 6th. Evie McCallum and Ellie Bent were 4th and 7th in the Girls event. In the earlier SGF Trophy and Vase events at Schloss Roxburghe, the 72  hole Boys’ event was won by Luca Smith, with a four over par total of 292, followed closely by James Wood and Aidan Lawson. In the Girls’ event Evie McCallum finished in 2nd place and Ava Paterson was 4th. Our own Shona Paton, Captain and Junior Convenor at Gifford, was 3rd in the East Lothian Ladies Summer Meeting round her home course, with a net 72! Brodie lies in 2nd place in Scottish Golf’s Order of Merit, behind Aidan Lawson. Evie lies 2nd in the Girls’ OOM. Well played all of you, ESPECIALLY BRODIE (now off 3.5 handicap) AND EVIE (now off 0.2 handicap!) Here’s the best bit – Stella Walters aged 9 and already with a handicap of 12, won the B Championship at Craigielaw beating some adult men and lady members! INTERNATIONAL TEAMS – several of our regular players have been selected for Scottish Teams to compete in the European Team Championships in July. The Team lists can be seen on Scottish Golf here. Well done to Grace, Evie, Oliver, Fergus, Jake, Aidan and Brodie.

May 25, 2023 By Dave Warren

Well done to the 58 players who competed at Haddington today in MD5.  Scoring was difficult though, despite the fine weather, as the greens were firm. Thanks are due to our hosts and to our usual band of helpers, Jack, Shona, Ric and Steve.  The gross and net scores individual scores appear on Golf Genius at MD5 – Leaderboard. Congratulations to The West Links Bass Team who came out on top and increased their lead in the League Table. Pride of place goes to Luke McLaughlin who stormed to a best of the day total of 44 points. The Team and leading individual scores for the event can be seen below.  Prizes can be collected at the next MD. The League Table has been updated and can be seen on this website. All scores have been submitted to WHS so any handicap changes will be made overnight. Please ignore the OoM standings on Golf Genius, as I have made an error which will be resolved soon. Thanks, Dave Warren.

MD4 results at Longniddry!

April 27, 2023 By Dave Warren

Many thanks to Longniddry Golf Club for their excellent hospitality at Match Day 4 on Sunday the 30th April. The scoring achieved by the 61 Players who took part proved that the course was playing hard! Scores have been updated to WHS so handicaps will change overnight. Congratulations to Kilspindie for winning the Team event by 5 points from Longniddry. Both Teams, along with Gullane, moved up closer to the Leaders West Links Bass. See League table on this website.  The best net points were 38 scored by Euan Bernard of Dunbar and by Scott Porteous of Longniddry, and Euan edged the first prize with a better back 9 of 20 points.  The best scratch points total of 32 was scored by Harris Munro and by Jack Collingswood with Harris winning with the better points total over the last 6 holes. Full Team and the best Individual scores appear below on the attached table.  The full individual scoring can be seen on the Golf Genius App, by going to Match Day 4, Results. Prizes awarded for today and can be collected at the next MD at Haddington on Sunday the 28th May. The scratch and handicap Orders of Merit can be seen on the GolfGenius App at Member Portal, Season Points. Rory McArdle now leads the Net OOM by 25 points from Sam Ratcliffe and Adam McLean. In the Scratch OOM, Jack Collingswood now leads by 6 points from Fraser Walters.

Only 23 Players have registered for this so far so please get your entries in through the Golf Genius App. I have also just opened up the 2 MDs on the 2nd July at Kilspindie and on the 16th July at Dunbar, so Players can enter these now.  Thanks to all the Convenors who helped on the day at Longniddry. Dave Warren, Jt. League Secretary.

Note – there were some errors with input of scores for one group of players due to the temporary loss of WiFi on Sunday, which have now been checked and rectified – in red figures on the table below. The positions of West Links Bass now 4th, and Craigielaw now 5th, have been reversed now to reflect that fact, and the League Table amended accordingly. Kilspindie are still the leading Team for that MD. The Convenors concerned have been informed. Apologies. Dave Warren.

MD3 Results at Craigielaw!

April 23, 2023 By Dave Warren

Thanks to all at Craigielaw for hosting our event on Sunday the 23rd April, and to our helpers Steve Austin, Ric Foulner, Stuart Findlay and Colin Leishman. The standard of play was excellent. The Team scores can be seen on the attached table. There was a great battle for 1st place between 5 Teams who were separated by only 3 points! West Links Fidra pipped Longniddry on 150 points with the better 5th score of 31 points to 30 points. Craigielaw edged West Links Bass for 3rd place with their better 5th score after they had both tied on 148 points, and Dunbar were very close behind on 147 points. The League table has been updated. Craigielaw and West Links Fidra have closed in on the leaders, West Links Bass. The best individual net scores were impressive, with 3 Players on 41 net points, and after the back 9 count-back, the winner was Rory Papakyriakou, with Maisie Witt and Rory McArdle in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Michael Coulter, Fraser Walters and Harris Munro all scored 35 scratch points, with rounds of 72, and filled the top 3 scratch positions in that order, after count-back. Prizes can be collected at the next MD. The prize list can be seen at the dropdown on the home page of this website. The Orders of Merit have been updated and Fraser Walters now has an 8 point lead in the scratch OOM with Rory McArdle leading the net OOM by 14 points. These OOMs positions can be seen on the Golf Genius App by accessing “Member Portal” and “Season Points.” Entries are still being accepted until Monday 24th April at 6 pm for MD4 at Longniddry on Sunday the 30th April. Late entries will be accepted if there are spaces. The next MD after that is at Haddington on the 28th May and is also now open for entries through the Golf Genius App. Dave Warren and Jack Rogan.

Results for MD2! An Ace!

March 28, 2023 By Dave Warren

The Team results for MD2 at North Berwick West Links can be seen below. Thanks to the staff at North Berwick Club for hosting a great day yesterday for our Junior League visit to the beautiful West Links! And thanks to helpers and parents who assisted. Congratulations to Ben Churn who had an Ace at the 4th hole with a 9 iron! I have given Ben a nice prize for his feat! Photo below. Prizes for Players at Match Days can be seen at this link.

In the Team event, the two West Links Junior Teams, Bass and Fidra, topped the Team scores with 141 and 140 points respectively (Best 4 out of 6 Stableford Points total.) Musselburgh Toun also scored 140 points, but lost out on 2nd place on count-back. The West Links Bass Team have now won both Match Days to date and now lead the League Table with the West Links Fidra Team now in 3rd place, just behind Craigielaw. The League Table can be seen on the right hand side of this website.

Two West Links Players had the best gross points totals – Jack Collingswood with a 68 (39 points)  and Sean Gallacher with 71 (36 points), and the conditions were not easy! Both Players are now playing off +1. The best net points totals were recorded by Kole Henderson of Craigielaw with 44 points, followed by James Hamilton of Gifford with 40 points, and Cameron Brown with 39 points.  Ben Churn was playing as a reserve and had a hole-in-one at the 4th. The League have given him a voucher as a prize.

The prizes for the top 4 scores in both Scratch and Handicap categories at each Match Day can be seen on this website under the drop down at “MD Results/Prizes 2023.

Individual scores at each Match Day can be seen on the Golf Genius App by accessing the Match Day concerned, then going to Leaderboard and clicking on Net or Gross scores. Member Portal

We had only 63 Players at MD2 as some of our Players were competing in the Junior Tour Scotland event at Golspie and Royal Dornoch, where the leading scores can be seen here. Congratulations to Aidan Lawson of West Links who finished tied 2nd in the 54 hole event.

MD1 Results from Gullane!

March 26, 2023 By Dave Warren

These are the results of Match Day (MD) 1 at Gullane No. 3 on Sunday the 26th March. Many thanks to Gullane Golf Club for accommodating our Players and Volunteers. Congratulations to the West Links Bass Team for their win with Craigielaw and Kilspindie close behind them. There was a record turnout of 74 Players but the weather was not helpful to good scoring, so 42 points was the highest net points tally recorded, by Seb Harvey of West Links Bass who had a gross 66. Seb also had the best gross total of 37 points, followed by Harris Munro and Charlie Cuthbert, tied on 36 points. The prizes for both gross and net are the same but the gross scores take primacy over net scores for prizes. So Katie Mackenzie of Gullane, with a gross 73 scored 41 points and pipped Ellie Bent and Harvey Blair for the best net prizes on count back. Prizes will be awarded at the following Match Day. All scores have been submitted to WHS for handicap. And “Season Points” for the Orders of Merit have been awarded. The best 6 placings out of 10 MDs over the season will count for some great prizes. Entries for MD2 at North Berwick are still being taken, so please enter through the Golf Genius App if you can play.

Dunbar win County Cup

March 20, 2023 By Dave Warren

On the 19th March 2023, the Dunbar Team of Kiron Gribble, Kai Laing, Corran Fraser, and Rory Allan combined well to pip the Haddington Team at the 20th hole in the 2022 Junior County Cup, held at Longniddry GC. The Haddington Team comprised Adam Nichol, Murray Bowsher, Adam MacDonald and Ben Austin. Both games were played in the alternate shot Foursomes format, off handicap, with the winners decided by the aggregate score over 2 games. In the first game, Kiron and Kai managed to win the last 2 holes for Dunbar to finish 4 up against Adam Nichol and Murray. In the second game, Adam MacDonald and Ben for Haddington finished 4 up against Corran and Rory. So with the aggregate score then being all square, both games proceeded to play extra holes until either Team emerged as aggregate winners. At the first extra hole Haddington went ahead in the first game with a par 4  but in the following game Rory holed a good putt for a par 4 to level the score again. In fading light, both games proceeded down the 2nd extra hole where both Dunbar pairs made excellent winning par 4s. This was a great Match played in fine spirit and  a great example of Team play. The Joint League Secretary Dave Warren was on hand to watch the Match, after which he presented the trophy and prizes to the winning Dunbar Team, and consolation prizes to the Haddington Team. Haddington fielded the same 4 Players in each round, whilst Dunbar fielded Elliot Brunton and Murray Welsh in earlier rounds. They also both received a prize for their contribution. Dave Warren thanked Joint League Secretary Jack Rogan for organising the tournament,  and Steve Austin of Haddington for starting the Match. The League would like to thank Longniddry Golf Club for hosting the final. Photos below:-

The Dunbar Team L-R – Kiron Gribble, Kai Laing, Corran Fraser, Rory Allan.

The Haddington Team:- L-R – Adam Nichol, Adam MacDonald, Murray Bowsher, Ben Austin.
